LOL
Sean Eric Stragan (@kithrup.bsky.social):
That's not quite how it was described -- what's going to happen is that if you block account $fascist, then $fascist will not be able to interact with you -- you won't see their posts, but they will still be able to see yours.
chelsea bridge, tetrachromancer 🏳️⚧️ (@secretaboutbox.bsky.social):
that isn't a block, that's a mute.
Sean Eric Stragan (@kithrup.bsky.social):
Yes. But it still means they cannot interact with you.
It doesn't mean that you will see the blocked account's posts, which is what I was pointing out as wrong.
Sage 🏳️⚧️🇧🇷🏳️🌈 (@trans.bsky.social):
oh, so then the functionality is asymmetrical & a harasser can continue to stalk you. Very cool.
silly guy!!! (@nasso.dev):
blocking someone never truly prevented someone from seeing your posts, it just made it more annoying (you just need an alt)
chelsea bridge, tetrachromancer 🏳️⚧️ (@secretaboutbox.bsky.social):
people love to keep trotting this out like none of us knows what an alt is, but the reality is that friction matters
you can't stop determined attackers but a little friction drastically reduces problematic bullshit
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Also, because "circumventing a technological access control to exceed authorised access" is both a flat TOS violation & arguably a felony, and escalations of harassment behaviour involve circumventing a block, T&S don't need to understand what the beef is, just that User A circumvented to harass B
