I remember my mom, very much an antichud, telling me once about how the Democratic conventions in the 1980s were an embarrassing farce. One speech after another where somebody is demanding that the spotlight be on their fringe group. After getting beaten 3 times in a row they finally dropped this bullshit and started trying to appeal to Americans in general and Clinton won in 1992. Hopefully the Democrats today don't need to lose a 4th time to learn.
The average voter is saying "What about me?"
The most concise way of describing what I've been feeling (and many many others in the country). It really rose to the surface in me when I was watching Obama's second inauguration speech. He went out of his way to thank the homos and various other special interest groups that backed him. Never mentioned me. Hey. I'm right here! I exist!

those groups are always going to fight the moderate dems for power
they have that way of thinking. its about their group and their people.
like the Bloc Quebecois in leafland. they unashamedly vote for the interests of french canadians, even at the expense of everyone else.
but they have their own party
if they were forced into a 2 party system whichever pandered harder to win the quebec vote would have the same problem
of being split between self-interested minorities and their base
the real answer is that quebec should always have been a seperate country
canada is lucky their interests and those of the fr*nch align well enough
if any of our minorities had the relative voting power and legal status of quebec this country would be over
