I need you to set the scene -
It is a warm spring evening. The sky is clear, the light is golden. The scene - Italy, in a tiny commune just outside Verona, named Parona all'Adige. The streets are paved with cobblestones and flagstones, every window has flowers and herbs in it, and people walking —

Off to our right, if we follow the streets and alleys a block, is the Luglio 26 1944 Lungadige, a street that runs along the side of the River Adige. We are on the Via del Ponte. We pass a park in which families are playing, the sun at our backs, the scent of the river in spring wafting to us

We walk in to town, and on our left, as we reach the end of the Via del Ponte as it merges with another, is a Ristorante, tables on the sidewalks, the scent of a wood fired oven blooming forth. Welcomed at the door by a waiter, we are shown to our table and the order taken -

Your order was for their specialty pizza, and they make it, bake it in the wood fired oven, serve it hot & fresh-
Crisp, chewy crust, with generous amounts of sundried tomato paste sauce, fresh oregano, fresh basil, the mozzarella was mozz'd a few blocks away this morning, sliced fresh black olives

There's a hint of garlic in the sauce that only arrives once you've swallowed, just a hint, you'd never find the evidence.
On the side they have some local salumi & a local gorgonzola for antipasto, and they serve it with house wine, Valpolicella, harvested last fall, light and fresh and floral.

Night descends, and drifting in from some blocks away is the sound of a street performer covering a radio hit, as the waiter serves a thin and modest but incredibly rich chocolate torte that you don't remember ordering, and it is all of it heaven
