India has more selfie deaths than the rest of the world combined. what is going on?

I do a lot of hiking in Canada, and for some reason ethnic Indians (and Asians in general) are obsessed with taking selfies of themselves standing on the edge of cliffs. They regularly hop over fences and barriers to get the "perfect" shot, so it's no surprise that they sometimes slip and fall to their deaths. (example)

Apparently Asian cultures put a lot of emphasis on selfies. A couple of years ago I witnessed a fire in a strip mall, and was amazed to see the Indian owner of one of the restaurants standing in front of the burning building and taking selfies. Like WTF?

My foid during med school had a patient that fell off a 10+ story building doing a tik tok and luckily, for the kid, got caught in some kind of grate/venting. Appearantly the kid was mainly upset about not having their phone in the hospital.
