Probably referring to the time in 1965 when the Communists tried a coup, killed a bunch of people in the process, and then got killed themselves after they lost. Leftoids have created a big hoax about it, claiming that a million commies were massacred but it was more like 50,000.

The killings are skipped over in most Indonesian history textbooks and have received little attention by Indonesians...

...because 95% of it never happened. Indonesians of Chinese descent, who you would expect to be most victimized, tell me that it wasn't as bad as those Muslim riots in the 1990s that nobody remembers anymore. I think basically what happened is after the Khmer Rouge the leftoids desperately wanted to point to right-wingers being as bad so they blew this event up into some huge genocide.

Chomsky's contemporary vocal defense of the Khmer Rouge spawned an entire subset of leftist academians committed to contorting reality into blaming the US for everything that happened in Cambodia.

The really fun ones are the defenders that completely absolve Chinese support for Pol Pot as being unavoidable due to the Soviet-Sino split (solely as a result of American scheming).
