My friend sent this to me so now you have to read it. This story reads like a red flag came to life and just got married.

I leave you with this INSANE kicker

"Mr. Quintero said he pursued Ms. Babai because he believed in making choices to find love: "It doesn't just happen.""

:marseypearlclutch2: Oh. Em. Gee. I can't wait to read the five year follow up when she divorced him for being a controlling monster.

:marseysmug3: The great gatsby was not meant to be an endearing tale! Yikes. 😬

:marseybigbrain: The Times editors know this sort of article will do numbers, because the clueless richie-riches who star in it will be flattered, and the university-degreed progressives will quote-dunk it to death among themselves

I always assumed the Times nuptials section was aimed at people like me to hate-read and hate-share.

Like, no way would they share the love story of two nonwhite non-Ivy League grads without the stalker element.

:marseyhesright#:

:marseyfeminist: This is not a meet-cute, this is scary. Rich people are weird.

Yes, this is a Bluesky writeup, and yes, most of these people don't want you chuds to see their posts.

Wow, thanks for ruining it! What if at this point in my life without a teacher to force me to, I decided that suddenly I want to read The Great Gatsby? :marseysmughipskorean:

I can convince people I've read a lot of classic books just because I saw the Wishbone episode. :marseyboomer:

Jokes aside, it wasn't ever a book worth reading for the plot or deep themes. It was always for the prose, which was quite interesting for its time (and basically a masterpiece by current-day standards). It's depressing pulp romance slop with a class-warfare slant to it, but still somehow better than any popular book released in the last 20 years. If you wanted a masterful story with genuine literary kino, there are dozens of English-language books written in the same time period that mog it to oblivion.
