Here’s your fricking Marseys.

https://rdrama.net/submit/marseys

Submit them there. Tag them. I will approve and change tags/names as needed.

NOTE

  1. Naming conventions are marseyWHATEVER; no portmanteaus of things for the NAME. Farting marsey would be marseyfarting, NOT fartsey.

  2. If your proposed name already exists, it will tell you this. Add a 2. If that already exists, add a 3.

  3. REGARDING TAGS: Tags are meant to aid in searching. They are not meant to be jokes or memes. They are also not meant to describe the image. A marsey wearing a blue tux and smiling as she farts, named marseyhappyfarting for example? Good tags: smile brap toot suit. You don’t need “blue” you don’t need “cat” you don’t need “feline” you don’t need “drawing” or whatever the frick. You also don’t need to include anything that is in the name. So tagging things “marsey” is redundant. Tagging this one “happy” would be redundant. Tagging it “fart” would be redundant. Why? Read on!

  4. This part is so simple but so constantly overlooked by you people that I’m giving it its own point. Emojisearch doesn’t search for exact matches of the full string. If you have “farting” in the name or tag, a search for “fart” will return it already. You don’t need every conjugation of every verb, either, that helps to render searching useless.

SHIT TAGGING AND NAMING IS WHY THE MARSEYS HAVEN’T BEEN UPDATED IN MONTHS. PLEASE STOP. I WILL REJECT YOUR MARSEYS IF YOU MAKE TOO MUCH WORK FOR ME WITH YOUR GARBAGE.

Thank you :star:

ALSO: Emoji that aren't Marseys still go in the thread linked in the sidebar directory (soon to be updated to reflect this fact). Now that Marseys proper are automated, this is a much lesser burden on the codecels, and these are much easier to add. Because they don't need tags. I swear, tags will be the death of us. Please help Carp out and give him good tags.

How’d you automate it? A submission form and a database table?

Credit goes to Aevann. Submission form, ImageMagick, database table. So much of the difficulty before was just data handling: pull things out of the thread, fix the tags, clean the images up if necessary, upload it all to the server with appropriate metadata using a special thread for that purpose. Assuming nothing really needed to be fixed, you could do maybe 45/hr with full focus. Assuming images and tags needed work (which they always did), that got closer to like 15/hr. Last time I did a batch, I managed to automate the latter case closer to 40/hr with some shell scripts and a spreadsheet, but it was still rough. Keeping the data all within the application helps so much.

Wait, only marseys have tags? So like searching for zombiewolfs only searches for exact matches in the emoji name?

Yeah, they're just name substring matches. All the non-Marseys (internally referred to as "shit emoji", thanks @DrTransmisia) can have tags added, but we generally don't bother. Unlike Marseys which are tracked in the database, shit emoji are added through a JSON file, and they don't even really track author (except the Anton ones).

:marppy:

There are some grandfathered cases, alas. Might do a batch rename someday, but for now we're just trying to stop the bleeding.

Oh, so that's why they don't show up on that marseys page. I always assumed all the emoji categories were equal.

I'm a bit baffled as to how modifying a JSON file (presumably by hand in a git repo) is in any way easier than using a webapp to modify a database, but I'm also not nearly bored enough to bother getting into rdrama development.

It would probably be optimal to stuff the shit emoji in the database too. And tbh, the new Marseys pipeline is easier than the shit emojis pipeline is easier than the old Marseys pipeline. But still— we get a lot fewer shit emoji, it works out fine in practice.
