New UI's lead (and nearly sole) developer is currently taking a break from the site, which led to the UI accumulating a fairly huge number of bugs that aren't really easy to get around.
For now, due to the amount of reports on the bugs in new, it was decided that keeping it up without fixing it was a bit untenable. When the lead developer (hopefully) returns - we'll be able to reinstate it.
