Yes, but he was the father of the community. He's somewhat similar to b*rdfinn here. He doesn't come up literally every sentence, but bardfinn lore is canon and you're supposed to know it. If you make a bike chain joke, you can be reasonably sure that 99% of users will know what you mean.
You are supposed to understand what a grey tribe is, what "cthulu always swims left" means, know what they mean by moloch, barber pole theory, conflict/mistake theory. He is like the cosmic background radiation of that place. His adventures in haiti are also always referenced when they feel racist, it's their "but I had breakfast this morning" equivalent

read meditations on moloch, it's his best post. If you love it, read the rest. Otherwise, it's not worth it to invest 10 hours into reading this.
The haiti article is also pretty funny and can be read in isolation, it has nothing to do with rationalism
