Volunteering :star:

Hi! I’ll start using this Hole properly soon, but let’s kick things into gear.

Do you volunteer time to Church-affiliated organizations or efforts? What’s your experience been like? I used to do administrative work for my old parish and that was necessary but not very fulfilling or time-consuming, and it’s past time I started giving back again so I am looking for insight into options here.

!catholics please consider joining this Hole!

R-slurred horses are funny. The stretch their heads out over fence for carrot/apple then you give and with their head still stretched out they take chomp and drop rest where they can't reach and get upset while the non-r-slurred horses are all like what a fricking r-slur lmao

I’m a lector and Eucharistic minister.

Sometimes when I can I help the sexton with the mowing of lawns around the parish property.

I wanted to sponsor some sort of youth orienteering program or adventuring thing but it’s kinda hard getting a hold of the archdiocese to sponsor it

We’re never short on ushers and that’s not really a sacrifice at all. The calling old people thing and cleaning and youth outreach all sound supremely unpleasant, and are thus promising. I’ll consider those if I see anything like that on offer for sure.

call up disabled/sick/shut in parishioners

that's sweet :marseylove:

there's an old person home near my church. they shuttle over every mass and i assume weekdays as well.

accompany ur priest on home visit communions n ur rites n stuff if ur Church do that?

that's hit or miss honestly (they dont expect a priest to bring a +1)

lots of old lonely people, lots of passive aggressive people, lots of kids dragged into the mass who don't care for it and are bored

overall, nothing to write home about. the dramatized version of being catholic is existing is a sin and you should feel bad and devote as much time to the lord and savior. im not that religious tbh and experiences may vary. then again my name is gaslamper so maybe im lying or whatever gaslampers do haha

Last time I did anything for the church (aside of giving money, which I actually haven't done in a long time), was standing vigil next to the tomb of Jesus as a scout. And, as you can imagine, that was more than a decade ago.

More recently (like half a decade) I almost promised to our parish priest to finance the church clock. But he said there is no need, it will be done. It's not done. I guess I didn't make a promise, so I don't have to bill that few hundred thousand it would probably cost. :marseysweating: But it's something I think about sometimes.

What I wanted to say is: no I'm not doing anything right now, and I haven't really done anything, even though I feel I should have.

Yo Carp, for 5k I can setup Biblebot to respond to Bible references here too. Make it 15k and I'll figure out how to include the Apocrypha as well.
