I normally can't watch his videos because his cadence kills me but this one is fricking more chill.
I think he makes good points. Not Trad Cath "pope is fricking evil" garbage but makes reasonable critics of his statements and lack of follow up at the fricking interfaith youth conference and about the fricking US presidential election.
Tell me your thoughts.

OP posted this to /r/catholicism and his channel is "Catholic on the Spectrum" !neurodivergents he looks away from the camera the whole time. It actually is pretty much what I was saying the other day. Poorly phrased statement but a and the 24/7 news cycle obsession with Francis is a meaningless and destructive distraction. His Holiness is 87, to date he's lacked clarity but I hope I'm half as lucid at that age.
Anyway pray for the Church and pray for Pope Francis.

What are your fricking thoughts on popes stepping down, b-word? I don't understand the fricking complete history but I know it's frowned upon generally.
I personally think it makes sense to do that once you're not all there but I'm not convinced either way.

I'm opposed, it's highly irregular from a tradition perspective and culturally the west has come to see aging/natural death as undesirable or lacking in dignity. St. Pope John Paul II continuing in his office to the end and honoring his station despite significant pain and ill health is the standard. Real baller move. St. Pope JP2 pray for the Church and Pope Francis.
It's recency bias and a byproduct of modern media/Liberalism's office-holding norms to believe otherwise. The Pope has minimal impact on the day-to-day of the Church, you should be turning to your priest and bishop for guidance and bishops do retire.

Sure but doesn't it make sense for the fricking pope to be cognitively functional, b-word? It's not like he doesn't serve no role whatsoever. Especially if an emergency happens for example with the fricking German priesthood stuff, b-word?

You do know that if a pope or bishop dies in office there's no immediate replacement process, right? They call a conclave which takes months/years. I think Pope Francis has tried to make his legacy one of de-emphasizing the primacy of the Papal Office, anyway, with the Synods etc.

There is no set duration of the conclave so, in theory, it takes 'as long as God wills it to take'. The longest Papal election in recorded history lasted for 2.5 years in the 14th century. Scandalous priests/bishops are an issue, sure, I don't disagree. I've just never heard a compelling argument for changing things, and I do find the aging and dying with dignity in the face of the encroaching culture of death to be a persuasive reason to stick with tradition. Anyone advocating for murdering the unborn/infirm/elderly is far from Christ.

I guess I personally don't see the fricking difference in dignity of dying as pope vs retiring but it doesn't bother me either way if that makes sense. I generally err on the fricking side of tradition but on this matter it doesn't sway me too much.
When did popes start retiring as a fricking practice, b-word?
I don't see the fricking relationship between this and the fricking papacy retirement vs dying in office. Is fricking there context I'm missing, b-word?
