What bothers me about it is that it's religious cosplay with none of the substance.

I think it's because at heart, people love ritual and liturgy. We love chants and iconography and prayers and incense. We are made for it. That's why God made His Church so rich in this way.

But we also have responsibility. We are obliged to follow God's Law, worship Him, accept His Will not ours, etc.

Witchcraft takes this thing that is good and twists it (as Satan does).

With witchcraft/occult stuff, there is also ritual and liturgy—spells, tarot, runes, crystals…things that seemingly would fill that void in one's heart, and combined with the tantalizing lie that you have control and no obligations in return. There seems to be a trend of thinking there's just a vague "universe" or energy. If there are no personal gods, there can be no obligations, can there? You can do whatever you want!

Ultimately, people who practice witchcraft don't worship anyone but themselves, just like Satan. And that's his goal, don't you think? To make people more like him instead of like God.

One of the top comments. :marseygem:

People tend to treat the prayers and ritual of religious life as mundane and don't emphasise it. My grandfather told me that the Eucharist was a literal divine sublimation into something utterly beyond us. He was a smart dude but he grew up rural and kept that mentality with him.

"Yeah I'm literally invoking angels and divine spirits to watch over you. Be grateful and say a prayer for me too yeah :marseyboomer: "

I will say a prayer for your grandfather, for you, and for the rest of your family, as well. :marseypraying: May God bless and watch over you all.

Yes, unlike wiccans who are doing make pretend, our man in the special robe is LITERALLY invoking a supernatural spirit to come inhabit this cracker for us to eat. We are not alike.

I mean that it's not treated as sexy and cool so midwits disregard it as its something they view as boring since they grew up with it.

It's about your rhetoric and charisma.

I think it's awful from even my athiestic view because witchcraft is so thought stopping. Empty rituals and self-congratulation fail to yield any secular equivalents to the meaningful aspects of religion.

I think ethics without religion can be pretty straightforward, but the faithful have a point when religion gets replaced with something ethically empty -- devoid of obligation to call back to the comment you quoted.

Yea I 100% agree with this guy, it's just a LARP to fill the need for genuine spiritual or social interaction and basically find a group to fit in. Highly doubt many people who practice modern witchcraft genuinely believe in any mysticism or esotericism associated with their practices. Not that it matters, none of it is real anyways.

The real problem is that this new iteration of witchcraft along with like 90% of modern social movements is just a way to justify doing whatever you want all the time

His existence is implied with this type of argument or "observation." That's all I'm getting at, sweaty. :marseysipping:

I don't think it's that shallow an observation to recognize that man's search for meaning and ritual are hardwired into us. :marseyindignant: Regardless the reason I shared it in this chain was the part about dunking on :marseysatanworship2: witches :marseysatanworship2: for mimicking "true" religious habits but inversing it to be a vain form of masturbation.
