It may be that the lawsuits in US have unreasonable payouts for me in general.

I mean the difference between the original sought damages by Sandmann vs the actual settlement in the Jones case is only by 30 million, which is a lot but is still a hundred millions dollar figure, and the first one was the ultimate side of the range but the plaintiff, a minor, against one of the largest media companies in the country and got whittled while the latter one is what actually got fined per family which was deemed even by the families to be somewhat excessive.

I mean it's a kinda good bringing up the MAGA hat kid, which I admit it made me go a bit from indifferent to sneed when I saw it, in order to bring perspective but the two are not that comparable, especially one that had been played in court for a little bit while one was dragged over years relatively out of the public's eyes. What Jones did horrible and undefendable but the fine, while explainable for him being a nuisance throughout the entire judicial process, was excessive.
