Dramatards which side would have supported during the Napoleonic Wars? :marseynapoleon2: :marseyoldguard:

!historychads Do you think l'empereur was a good guy or a tyrant? Would you rather side the Bongs, Austria and Russia? Or make use of the Bongs like Portugal while doublecrossing Napoleon?

Let's presume you're in 1805 and have no benefit of hindsight

(There's no Napoleonic era british soldier so the red coat should suffice).

!neolibs do you think the British Empire represented was the closest to our vision for that era?

I have an ancestor who fought in the Napoleonic wars. First against the French, and then after being conquered, simply stayed on in the army and fought with them. :marseyshrug: Many such cases, I suspect.

Yes, it was a common practice up until the mid 19th century.

During the Paraguayan War (1864-1870) for instance, the Argentine and Uruguayan armies incorporated Paraguayan POWs into their forces. On the other hand the commander of the Imperial Brazilian Army, the marquis of Caxias, refused to do the same deeming POWs as unreliable in the battlefield (he was right as many deserted back to their country).
