Most of the beauty pressure exerted on women in advertising and media is aimed at making them look like pre-pubescent children (body hair removal, ultra-shiny hair, flawless skin). When you look at your pre-pubescent self and unfavorably compare your current, developmentally appropriate appearance to that, you are at some level buying into the narrative that you shouldn't become a fully mature, adult human being because you are female.
