It might even be true that Americans have more fat people but I doubt it.

just read some stats bro. Americans are not the only fat nation, and maybe unfairly famously fat, but fat nevertheless

Because it ties into the social determinants of health, and because it ties into diets and consumption and the availability of certain foods within national and global systems, cultural understanding of what food is, as well as social inequality and wealth disparity... It's not a subject for an episode, it's a topic of multiple PhDs!

>but what even is food

god I hate these arguments that try to distract you from the point by chasing definitions

>food swamps

New science unlocked!

:sciencejak:

>I would also add that polynesians are a great example of BMI racism too-- they are big, tall sturdy people!

First off, how does fat add sturdyness? Secondly, BMI scales with height anyway. They've watched too much Moana methinks.

A quick google search can tell you that pacific islander obesity rates (70% obese :marseywtf:) are caused by constant eating of calorie dense food. They didn't have a magic gene that popped into expression when they started importing garbage fast food culture.

>There's also this weird corollary where a lot of discussions online would turn into people couldn't help it if they were fat in America, the whole environment and corn in everything was to blame. Which made me as a fat non-American feel my own fatness was to blame, since I wasn't one of those sympathetic fat people.

Of course Americans were talking about why Americans were fat, you fricking genius :fatbrain:. I'm sure whatever shithole you're from has its own slop people are consuming by the gallons.
