This is something I'm addressing with my hot gay psychiatrist I hope to have more of an internal locus of control to overcome the depression but it was comforting when I was religious and thought God would take care of everything. You seem very internal locus of control to me.
I'm generally of the opinion that we're far more in control of ourselves than we give ourselves credit for. We can even control our emotions, we just need the willpower to do so, which obviously people have in varying amounts.
"Shouldn't care" sounds more like you want to just ignore them.
Giving your emotions sole control over your actions is r-slurred, but so it giving them zero control. It's important to care about our emotions even if we don't let them make rash decisions for us.

External locus of control: "My psych is gay. It's the way it is. There's nothing I can do."
Internal locus of control: "My psych is only gay because I haven't turned him yet."
