Yeah, I know what unquestioned means, what I'm arguing is that by the 1950s, the USA's status as global hegemon was still being put into question.
After all, America faced a competing superpower (USSR) who could seemingly match its military might (Korean War), presented a credible ideological threat (Red Scare, general fear of communist infiltration and subversion), and seemed capable of expanding its sphere of influence (China, North Korea, etc).
Honestly, the real "Unquestioned King" decade(s) would probably be the 80s (and by extension the 90s). Soviets were a gerontocracy, China had been defanged (for the time being), communist movements were being stamped out in the third world or being discredited in the first world, the economy was booming, and Raegan might as well have had 100% approval ratings.
