Yeah it's really easy.
Slice a red onion in half from top to bottom, then set it down on the cut side and and cut off slices as thin as you can. Find out the total amount of liquid you'll need then add half water, half vinegar, and a healthy dose of salt to a pot and boil it (you can add sugar here too but I don't). Put the onions into a container (mason jars work great) and once the liquid boils pour it in. You can use them immediately but they improve a lot after a night in the fridge.
