I think iron is pretty brittle, but i'm confused on that too. Looking it up it may have been due to an error when they were making it? who knows

Many factors could cause this, might also be a counterfeit. I know Amazon keeps having problems with that.

I bought it off their actual website so I'm sure I'll be able to get a replacement easily. Mostly was just surprised tbh, weird it broke and weird packaging

Yeah that is weird. I only get Lodge now, so I can't say if that's normal packaging from Le Creuset these days.

It was on sale so could just be them offloading their bs pieces, don't know. A strange thing to show up broken like that tho lol.
