I've been a terrible caretaker of this starter and it always comes right back after a couple of feedings. It's actually an offshoot of a friends, and his is one his family brought over from Ireland in the 19th century. It might just be a variety of yeast that's especially resistant to abuse.

Sourdough starters can bounce back after some time if you're lucky. It's not a sure thing though, so congrats!
