Got halfway through "Gone with the Wind" yesterday coincidentally so I've already started the marathon. Scarlett O'Hara really is a c*nt. Does she represent the South? I think Rhett Butler is like the spirit of the modernizing North (and rich industrialists who would have been happy to let the Southern ruling class just keep being rich and prosperous.) He's like "b-word, I love you because you're a rich, selfish c*nt, that's just like me, we're self-interested pieces of shit, we could just be happy together."
But like the South, she maintains her romantic, fairytale delusions of chivalry, to her ruin (like the South.) Her c*ntitude represents the c*nty Southern landowners who had to fight a ruinous war. And we see how sexism and art are intertwined beautifully in this classic allegory that was a massive hit, both in novel and film.
I haven't seen most of these, thoughts? Is it a good list? I'm pretty sure #2 is REALLY sexist (I've heard of it,) but what about the others?
