You also have to avoid most reviewers, as well. Makes it hard to find the good stuff, but constantly being exposed to braindead takes and trash getting high scores due to representation makes it easy to hate all media.
There's still good stuff out there, you just have to find it, which has become much harder when there's so much around and you can't trust people's opinions.

have you noticed that there's just nothing mid budget anymore? i've noticed it especially with games and movies. even the biggest games 15 years ago could have teams of like 30 people working on them unless you count testers (not human). it's either 200 million dollar goyslop or 5 dollar indie game made by one person and his headmates. i think battlebit remastered might be the only exception i can think of, but even that's only a team of like five. but it proved you can hit mainstream audiences without needing the best graphics of sweat grime raytracing, tomb raider style. just give me more decent things at decent prices, i don't need giant blockbuster movies and games that cost a fricking gdp

It is sad, yeah, the mid budget is fun, your movie/show isn't limited in scope to just 3 people talking in an apartment, but it doesn't become massive 2.5hr blockbuster about saving the world either. Same for games, you can even build basic open world or whatever, but there isn't gorillion spent on crafting 500k polygon horse balls.
I think it's mostly down to risk vs reward, big blockbusters, at least until recent Disney bombs, make a LOT of money. Established franchise, big name actors, etc. are easy sell. OTOH indie is low risk, and while they don't make a ton, if successful, you can turn them into moneyprinting franchises or poach the actors into big projects.
That said, mid budget still exists, it's just super uninspired. In vidya, I was just thinking how almost every Unreal Engine 5 release falls more or less into that category - Immortals of Aveum, Layers Of Fear, Remnant 2. Lords Of The Fallen, Talos Principle 2 etc. They're just all boring sequels or reboots.
