Weekly "What are you watching?" thread

What have you plebs been watching? How was it? Tell us!

NO ANIME

For me:

Police Story (1985) - Simple name for one of the best movies I've ever seen. Written and directed by the martial arts kino GOAT, Jackie Chan. All the stunts are practical and Jackie ran a fricking excruciating regime to produce this kino. Every action movie today owes its existence to this film. I had always heard about this movie but never bothered with it until now, and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. You want a fun movie with real action and funny ching chongs? Go watch this right now. Top kino

The Holdovers (2023) - Just when you thought they don't make movies like this anymore, they made one. A certified Christmas classic. Think John Hughes meets Dead Poets Society (1989) meets Manchester By the Sea (2016). If you need a comfy Christmas movie, watch this one

Millennium Actress (2001) - kinda overrated, but a decent watch

Cop Land (1997) - Might be the only movie with Stalone and De Niro. Bunch of mobbed up cops own a town in NJ and shit starts to go down. Honestly not that good, but like half of The Sopranos cast is in it, plus Ray Liota and De Niro.

Fargo Season 5 - banger

Slow Horses - If you like modern comfy bong spy thrillers, watch this. Budget is insane and it's just brits doing what they do best. Gary Oldman plays a grimy disgusting ex-Cold War spy and it's everything

I'm slow at movies :(

In the middle of An American in Paris. Hate musicals, but after I discovered that My Fair Lady is a top ten movie ever, I figured I could get past my trauma of Oliver! and all those other awful musicals I've seen bits and pieces of.

So far An American in Paris is vying for worst Best Picture with Shakespeare in Love. Shit's rough.

In the middle of another five other things, but I'm already tired of listening to myself.

Watched Cop Land two weeks ago. Sad that the deaf revenge at the end wasn't done better. Not a lot of redeeming qualities to Cop Land.

I have a primal revulsion to musicals, like it ignites something in my DNA and makes me angry. For that reason I'll never finish the Goose filmography (La La Land)

Cop Land was really meh, you're right. It was hailed as Liota's best performance, so I gave it a go, he was good but the whole product was middling.
