Weekly "What are you watching?" Thread

What have you plebs been watching? How was it? Tell us!

NO ANIME

For me:

Ya boi's been on a tear this week. We'll run through the movies then finish up with /tv/

True Lies (1994) - My previous knowledge of this movie was only the I M A G I N E meme from /tv/. Genuinely thought this was some tryhard psychosexual drama. NOPE. Turns out its an action comedy movie with one the most kino villain deaths in cinema history. Had a great time with this one, and Jamie Lee Curtis had an amazing torso, shame about the rest of her.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) :marseyskellington: - Technically I had seen this movie before, but it was during a /soc/ meetup with a 4chan whore like 7 years older and me who still lived with her mom I was tryna pipe so I remembered nothing. Actually everything in her room was themed after this move, like Skellington socks, witch curtains, etc. Red flag galore, but I was like 19 and didn't know better (still would repeat tbh). Anyways, sat down and watched it properly for the first time. I can see why so many mentally stunted wh*te kids built their whole identity around it. Story was ok, songs were meh, but the aesthetic and stop motion technique are superb and worth the watch.

May December (2023) - This is a very recent Netflix movie starring (((Natalie Portman))) and some old white b-word (Julianne Moore?). Movie follows Portman, a young actress, who goes down to Savanna, Georgia, to study the subject for a new biopic/reality slop piece she's working on. The movie description just says she's gone to do so on-sight shadowing of a couple involved in a "tabloid affair", but you soon learn the affair was actually a 36 year old woman raping a 7th grade boy and bearing his child in prison and the all the aftermath that followed. It's a weirdly intense movie, would class it as a psycho-drama dark comedy. There are are lot of layers to this one, and the visual tricks and language the director uses are a whole other experience you can dissect for hours. Give it a watch, maybe not with family, unless you're wh*te and you're into that idk. Also apparently this movie is based on the real life story of this foid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kay_Letourneau

Manodrome (2023) - L M A O. Bros this fricking movie was KINO. So it's about this disaffected down-on-his-luck 8 mile-esque slim shady white boy (played by Jesse Eisenberg, funny to see where he ended up compared to Portman as he had the starring role in The Social Network (2010)). Anyways, this guy is not really shy, just not really talkative, call him taciturn. He was fired from his factory job and attends some basement gym (the inside of the gym lockers has a guide on how to take muscle selfies lmao). He has a pregnant blue haired girlfriend and he's frustrated with his station in life and constantly feels emasculated by the huge black guys in his gym and disrespected by his woman. He ends up joining this like Andrew Tate/Huberman manosphere cult out in some wealthy suburb, called Manodrome where he meets "Dad Dan" (played by Adrien Brody lmao) and shit begins to go down. This might legit be one of my favorite movies of the whole year, maybe decade. This is what normies think an incel is lmao. I'll post spoilers for this one in the comments, but the ending was fricking great. I was fricking howling and stood up clapping. In a way, it's Midsommar (2019) for white guys lmao

As for tv:

Rick & Morty just had it's worst episode of all time

Slow Horses somehow has this restrained hype that only a great spy thriller can execute. There's a scene at the end of the most recent episode where the rich slimy prep kid with greased hair and a Gordan Gecko suit just chews up the scene with his anglo jaw and smugness for like 5 minutes. Straight gigachad shit only bong actors can do. Legit bongistan makes the best actors, and it's not even close.

The Curse great Emma Stone episode this week. She's obviously pretty, but this week I was convinced of her beauty. I think it's because this show's setting is some ghetto suburb outside of Santa Fe, where everyone else is just normal looking, and she's this fricking angelic apparition carousing through their domain. Still my must-watch recommendation of the season

Fargo slaps like always. Actually this latest episode has a home invasion where everyone was wearing masks from The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)...which I had finished watching right before booting up this episode :!marseyschizotwitch: :marseyskellington:

Pantheon about halfway through the second and final season. Give it a watch if you're one of those people who watches everything animated, it's not quite /co/ but not quite /tv/ either.

Barbie (2023) was tailor made to make inkwells seethe. That movie increased my misogyny to untold levels. It's also kind of long. Ken was fricking great in it though.

Manodrome is shorter, like 90 minutes and flies by.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

As promised: The ending of Manodrome (2023) reveals that our main character has been a closeted homo the whole time. The whole movie he has been leering and staring at this jacked African guy at his gym, and following him around in his car. Toward the end, he follows him to a work site and the black guy gets the drop on him, then they start making out. Initially the first kiss lingers for a while, then the MC pushes him off. The black guy moves closer and pulls out a condom and fricks the trembling little white boy up against a wall (no lube) and the scene plays out of this short jacked black guy asbolutely ravaging this faux-ginger-incel bussy. Bros I woke up the neighborhood with my laughter. After nutting in his butt, the black guy pulls out and makes conversation, then Eisenberg shoots him and takes his bling and pick up truck.

He pawns the jewelry and shows up at the hospital where his wife is holding their newborn. The next day he comes home and finds his wife has abandoned the baby with a neighbor and left. MC takes the baby to his incel cult (Manodrome) and hands the baby over. He asks someone to take the baby upstairs. He then goes on a shooting spree and gets arrested.

I can't tell if this was written by a progressive white woman or a cryptochud. Going for white woman because of the condom, chud would obviously go for rawdogging.

As I was logging the movie, I realized I had only actually seen 1 other Arnie flick, that being The Terminator (1984) (the first one). I watched a little of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) later but never finished it for some reason. And that was it. Arnie was such a mainstay in the culture I just experienced him via news and tabloids I guess, but before this week, had only seen 1 of his movies. It is one my greatest shames as a kinosseur

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I really recommend you do.

I concede that many of those movies aren't what you'd objectively call good, but they are fun. Corny 80s action flicks just really do it for me.

But there are also actually good films to be found, the first 2 Terminators are great, Total Recall is pretty good too and Predator is iconic for many reasons.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Commando might be the distilled essence of 80s movies. Both good and bad. Predator is also one of the most tightly paced films I have ever seen. Especially compared to the most recent film which feels like a bloated mess comparatively.

Pretty sure it was the first episode of the show with absolutely 0 appeareance by the titular character, Rick.

It was a fleshed out plot of a short skit they did 8 years ago which wasn't even funny then. The whole episode was about like numbers fighting letters and the numbers in some far off planet using math, hip hop, and algebra. Bewilderingly bad episode, and Ice T is both a character and a voice of the father of the character named after him. This was a real "jumping the shark" moment

Are you sure you don't just need a really high IQ to understand the episode?

could it really be worse than that awful sperm episode? Pretty sure I stopped watching after this one

Also what do you think of the new voice actors?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I thought the sperm episode was the best in the whole series. It was truly bizarre and they just kept turning up the knob over the course of the runtime. I genuinely never understood the backlash.

The Numbericon was just bad, like the corners of black deviantart in 2011 levels of bad.

Its humour is hit or miss, but characters are entertaining. Knowing political leanings of the creators I'm expecting it to go full soy at some point, but for now the culture war stuff wasn't really in your face. (with 6 seasons even if they don't go in that direction, I expect hem to run dry and into the ground.)

Rewatched Ratatouille yesterday at a birthday party, the animation was aged but the story is always good.

Sad that Disney removed romance from their current films but also the forced romance between Linguini and Collette made no sense.

Jump in the discussion.

Ratatouille is one my top animated movies of all time, up there with Spirited Away (2001)

There's a weekly anime thread in /h/anime and I wanted to keep the genres separated

Pixar during the early 2000s was so frickin good. Ratatouille is fantastic and Wall-E is in my top 3 favorite movies.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I still remember seeing Ratatouille (2007) in the theaters with kids from my neighborhood.

I think my all time favorite will be The Incredibles (2004). Every time I watch it is like the first and I feel like a kid again :marseywhirlyhat:

For some reason I completely missed out on Wall-E (2008). 2008 was a hectic year, then Up (2009) came the next year, then Toy Story 3 (2010) and by then Pixar had changed and the movies were pretty soulless

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Ratatouille is only above average, Toy Story will forever be the best Pixar movie. and if your argument for which one might be better isn't The Incredibles or Finding Nemo then you have no right to lead the kino hole.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Soy Story (1995) is slop for suburban future school shooters. Toy Story 2 (1999) is pure kino tho

Finding Nemo (2003) was a psy-op. I think they played that movie at every birthday party, field trip chartered bus, hospital, and dental waiting room in the Northern Hemisphere.

I have like 4 copies on VHS that no one remembers purchasing, they were just always there.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

How did I already know you'd be a Toy Story 2 shill? Listen, kiddo, Toy Story has more soul in one pinky than The Woody Story and all it's shitty sequels have combined. No Buzz? No bueno, bucko. Pixar planned for years for Toy Story and it shows, it has the tightest script of any movie, PERIOD. I invite you to tell me one wasted moment. The Woody/Buzz dynamic is fantastic, and still funny today as an adult. Oh, you cried when Jessie got thrown away? Why don't you keep yourself safe, kitty, and go watch other corporate mandated sequel TRASH SLOP that you seem so eager to slurp up. I doubt you even have a sense of humor at all, since you've already shown you'd rather guzzle faux-sentimental c*m than enjoy an actual movie. I bet your favorite movie of all time is The Shawshank Redemption.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Honestly, it's sad that Disney ruined Pixar since mickey is the parent company they will never allow Pixar to have better movies than them now.

also the small visual details in Ratatouille, like Linguini checking out Collette when he first walks into Gustavs restaurant always make rewatching fun since you pick up on new details.
