I dont get how someone could want to be a jannie. I feel like a bit of a loser for simply commenting a bunch on social media all the time. I couldnt imagine someone wanting to actively "moderate" people's discussions.

Perks are you get absolute power over the game. You can spawn in creatures and make 'events'. Basically you're the GM to what is a world of 30 or so players.
Of course there's the perks of being able to bully people who are not jannies, and hang out with other jannies and be highly regarded (as a janny, that is)
But pretty much any and all servers required you to do their busy work, ie monitor the game 24/7 and give proper punishments for breaking the rules.
Oh that one person has a name that vaguely resemble a celebrity? Bully them till they comply or slap them with a ban. It was very petty and time consuming. You need to be of a certain... mentality, you can imagine...

It makes sense if you're passionate about something niche inside like a cars or books or guns or movies or music interest or something. I've never been a mod, but moderating the discussion of 20 people so that you're just kicking paedos and trolls doesn't seem to be too horrible.
It's when you're modding /r/pics or a fricking roleplay server that it's like... darn, maybe work on that Taco Bell manager training module instead.
