For those who don't know The Boy and The Heron is the latest Miyazaki film that was released to critical acclaim but tepid audience reaction because it was too "weird". People here are probably aware of the Spiderverse 
animated flicks but not how massively overrated they're amongst online "cinephiles". Not only does this film have a rabid capeshit fanbase but it has also managed to rope in the wokes and the film twitter/letterboxd crowd 
(seriously it was the highest ranked film of all time on letterboxd).
Because Miyazaki's film had a lukewarm audience reception it was a genuine surprise it won over Across the Spiderverse. Suffice to say, these nerds are not taking it well

Now, this doesn't guarantee that The Boy and The Heron will win at the Oscars and apparently it only won at the Golden Globes because it has a more "International" 
voting body now. Spiderverse is still the frontrunner for the Oscars. Still, the meltdown would be 100x this if Spiderverse were to lose at the Oscars. Hope they act based for once and piss all over capeshit this year but I'm not holding my breath over it

The best part about this is that anyone born in the 90s should know that its really no surprise a studio Ghibli/Miyazaki film won best animation. Ghibli's Spirited Away was literally the most successful animated film for decades after its release and helped put anime on the map for western audiences as potentially good. Capeshitters in shock that the literal GOAT of weebshit doing a passion project outshined mass produced garbage dont just have bad taste, but have zero knowledge of animated films in the first place.

Every one of ghiblis movies is such high quality work and I hate anime weebshit. Princess Mononoke is my favorite. My kids love that and spirited away. The 2D look on 3D was done already by Peanuts. I'm sure there's a lot of things Spiderverse improved or innovated but here's the thing when it comes vfx/hollywood animation, almost every major release they talk about how they developed a new software to achieve X effect or how many hours it took a specific frame to render.
And then you have youtubers like this who exaggerate shit. Like at one point in the video he talks about how great it is that they have characters properly interacting with the environment like Miles hitting a car or some people in the background while running. That's "great" if all you're used to is cheap and lazy animated works. You have that in dime a dozen Pixar/Disney works that no one even talks about.
Like his analysis of that Jurassic Park 2 scene is nitpicky and I hate that movie. He tries to make every minor continuity error as some sort of scene discombobulating issue. There's a reason he has to pause and go over certain "mistakes" multiple times because they're barely noticeable in motion. Like almost everytime he says he can't see the character, you can see the character and I'm on my phone watching a guy in a youtube vid show it to me on his shitty monitor. Or when he asks where that "door" came from. They're in a place with buildings on both sides and you can see that in establishing shot. Do you need to be shown that specific entrance prior to that shot to not be confused by its existence?
It's not a particularly good scene but his "analysis" is worse and I'm sure he thinks Jurassic Park 1 is well directed even though it contains similar "mistakes".

You can make a technical marvel (pun intended) but its still not enough to outshine and impress. I dont really care that the camera is its own character, I dont care that MOST 2D doesnt do what a 3D render does more easily (but can still be done with enough work), i dont care about dynamic FPS. When it comes to animation I care about how it looks and how it flows. Id pick a pixar film over spiderverse because it just frankly looks and flows better. Its why Hazbin Hotel was beyond solid, the whole thing just oozed fluid movement on top of a unique enough design. Its also why Uzumaki is going to be anime of the year when it releases, the whole thing just oozes soul and passion and looks great
