So if you don't know what Plex is it's a combination of a desktop server program plus apps on various platforms that lets you download movies and then stream them directly to your tv or phone or other device via a really nice interface that automatically finds thumbnails and summary information for all the movies and shows you've downloaded.
And so torrents are now basically liberated from my laptop (or the heck of plugging my laptop into my tv with an hdmi cable, lol) and free to reign on my tv and so I'm coming to you, people of rdrama, to suggest movies I should download for my Plex library.
This is what Plex looks like on desktop, these are all movies I've torrented
These are the movies I've already downloaded so suggest me anything that isn't already on here.

It's sad how massively popular Plex has become in such a short while, meanwhile Kodi has been out since the early 2000 and seems to have been all but forgotten. I've been running Kodi ever since it was Xbox Media Center (XBMC) on my original Xbox and it's always been fantastic software plus a huge community of plugin authors.
Anyway, if you're looking for a decent movie - Check out "The Pledge" with Jack Nicholson, circa 2006, its on Roger Eberts "most overlooked movies list" and was actually pretty good, not GREAT, but it did scratch the itch of wanting to see another 90s-00s psychological serial killer thriller movie and it has a neat twist. I enjoyed it and my wife did too.

Kodi is better in my opinion providing you aren't an r-slur, I have a plugin called Seren that is basically roll-your-own netflix and it streams everything for free - but you do need to set up a real debrid account which isn't hard. Also I use Sonarr and NZBDrone to download all of my stuff from old Usenet groups, no slow torrents, but that takes some effort to set up as well.

how long has seren been around? last time i fiddled with kodi was probably 2018 or so, i didn't watch stuff too often (maybe once a month) but i remember basically every time i wanted to watch something the addon i was using would be BTFO'd and i'd have to go to the subreddit and figure out whichever new service everyone was using and link my real debrid etc.
not that plex runs that much smoother though lol. still have to do a rain dance to get it working on other devices if the PC i run my server off of has gone to sleep at any point since plex was launched. need to just get an actual server at some point but electricity

I know what you mean about the plugins it was a constant cat and mouse game. Seren has been around for at least 3-4 years now and it's super stable. I think the big difference with Seren is that you the user have to enter the scrape sources (which is easy) and that it pulls from real debrid instead of public torrent sites.

Plex works if you are a complete r-slur which I am so I'm going to stick with Plex lol

That's OK, tbh Kodi is a lot of work to set up.
Watch that movie I recommended it was good. Also you can't go wrong with any Swartzeneggar movie from the 80s / early 90s.

/tv/ likes curating files on their computer. if you don't, this on a fire stick for $3/mo is a much better user experience

Kodi was shilled a lot early on but i guess it was too soon and it didn't have enough polish. I think people also didn't take too well to having a computer hooked up to their TV. Plex was more like a personal Netflix instead of a 500 DVD changer.
