Malignant: a review

Continuing my duty of reviewing mid to bad horror movies, I watched Malignant with a very special someone last night :marseyshy: anyways here's my review.

It's very…James Wan? Idk how to explain it other than “white woman terrorized by horror” which seems to be his thing. I feel like I figured everything out pretty quickly in relation to the monster but most people would.

The monster was good and interesting looking. To be honest I would have preferred if the entire movie was centered on the woman while she was in the hospital with the thing growing out of her back because it looked creepy. The horror was a bit toned down when it just became “dude in trench coat doing sick tricks” but I was still quite entertained so I have no complaints.

My biggest gripe with this movie was the sister. Her superfluous relationship with the cop was really random and I feel like it was a cut piece of the movie.

Also I feel like this movie wanted to be like Smile, where it had a bit of a philosophical piece where it talked about how family through bonds is stronger than family through blood but it fell really flat because 90% of the movie doesn't touch on it at all.

Okay movie, 3.5/5

I thought it was decent.

The whole fight sequence at the end was amazing. I couldn't stop laughing when he sniped the guy from across the room with the chair.

The entire movie is an intentional troll. It baits you with a seemingly normal horror premise and slowly adds ridiculous details until there's a woman with a face growing out of her head slaughtering an entire police station with Matrix moves

I'm gonna need a picture of a hot foid with something growing out of her (from this movie, as described) before I care, sorry

I also keep coming back to the metaphor that Reddit is a great deal like Gormenghast: an ancient, stony fortification of cobbled-together structures, housing a gaggle of idiosyncratic personas whose lives are filled with the performances of abstruse rituals and obligations, the mandatory detritus of a former glory — insular and in a state of glacial decadence, and which nevertheless has a secondary community plastered on its boundary, with which it perfunctorily yet regularly interacts AND YET all of which exists within a much wider world that has largely diverged from it.

I think about the Tower of Flints.
