Godzilla films go through a cycle of making a serious movie that is somewhat grounded and actually decent (1954, return, 2014) and then descend into cash grabbing slop with massive variance in quality and coke fueled plots. The live action reiwa movies are the only ones that had two in a row that are actually good(shin, minus one).
That being said I have watched like 80% of the movies and they are all fun even if they are bad.
Godzilla vs kong was completely r-slurred when it came to plot, characters, and dialogue but it was at least creative in the fights and the cg was amazing. Hopefully the next one can maintain those highlights.

Godzilla neighbors group films around the emperors lives but not right on the dates. Its just to break up the blocks of films since the gaps happen to loosely coincide.
Heisei era really started in 89 but return of godzilla is from 84 and still considered heisei because the preceeding terror of mechagodzilla from 75 has a hairy unkempt beaver in comparison to return's shaved snatch.
Same deal with shin being released in 2016 even though reiwa didnt actually start until 2019.
