ehhhh i found the ending kind of corny - you have this unstoppable super weapon and their plan is to get him tuckered out and then get him shit-faced on blood coagulents. While it makes sense they had to sort of deus-ex the situation a bit by making Godzilla suuuuper eepy after using his atomic breath, just to give the humans a chance, which sort of contrasts with how absolutely fricking unstoppable he is in the first half
also i get that the music was nostalgic and from the early films, but the triumphant "fighting godzilla" music from the 50s that plays during the final scenes sounds super fricking cornball and kind of kills the mood
also their little subplot of the scientist who left behind his notes didn't really pan out - their plan in the end after they decrypted his notes was the same plan they had all along, they just had some better ideas on exactly which chemicals to use - you could really tell the writers didn't know where to go with the "muh chemikals" subplot because when they finally deciphered his cryptic notes, the movie just shows a computer screen from its perspective and you can't see what it actually was - in other words they didn't know how to or what to even explain it as and just hand-waved it away as a magical science-mcguffin
anyway enough of that, the first half is still worth watching the whole film, and the atomic breath scene really saves the entire movie

It did slow down far too much. But the last 20 minutes really make up for it.
