Holy shit that show is so bad. I'd say that I'm slightly "I fricking love science" inclined (as some of you might've seen from one of my recent posts), but this shit drove even me mad. There's so much pseudoscientific, pseudophilosophical pretentious bullshit, my eyes rolled so far back I could see my own brain. Everything is bad about it, everything. The idea is stupid, the plot is r-slurred, the actors are trash, the neo-dudebro dialogue is cringe, the whole idea with the alien VR is like the Matrix if it was released 30 years too late and made as gay as possible.
God, I've watched 2 episodes of this and I'm not watching another one. Absolute trash. And don't tell me the book is better, I don't believe it. There's nothing salvageable here. Everything is bad and I could list it for hours

The books work because all of the nonsense comes entirely from Chinese characters, so you can be like “Hm, Chinese people have an unique view on science and philosophy, influenced by their cultural revolution, how interesting”
But in the Netflix version it's all these terrible Western actors saying shit that clearly doesn't come from Western science and philosophy, so it all seems hokey.
And you're right, the hyper real VR aspect came about 20 years too late, a hundred other shows have already done it, so it has zero appeal.

Lol i tried that 3rd season of Westworld and I tried watching ep 1 3-4 times and fell asleep every time.
It's a shame cuz the first season ruled, I liked how they told the story and how all the pieces came together by the end of S1

Season 1 was fantastic, Westworld should have been left as a miniseries.
Season 2 entered Nolanesque dogshit territory.
Season 3 was a generic, boring cyberpunk slop, I didn't even bother watching season 4. The second season was already weak but they went downhill after leaving the park which was kind of the show main attractive (cowboys and robots).

The show has a high rating on IMDB so it's not like it's one of those shows that everyone agrees is bad. I wouldn't feel the need to validate my hate for it here if that was the general consensus.

My favourite part of the books is when the guy holding the mutual self destruction device gets replaced by a woman and the aliens immediately end world peace and invade because they know she's too stupid to press the button. Is that in the show?
