Has any director ever had a more overrated run of films?

I've not seen Oppenheimer so can't comment on that but every single one of these films was a massive disappointment and yet all were massively criticality acclaimed and are beloved by Redditors across the globe. I don't even hate Nolan either, the first two Batmans, Memento and the Prestige were all good films

Interstellar is good

Even if the plot was weak, the scenes near the Black Hole and the visuals of Miller's and Mann's planet made it thousand times better than the average action slop.

My personal takes

Inception 7/10

The Dark Knight Rises 6.5/10 (capeshit, it would be lower if not for the great memes :marseybane: :marseycia:)

Interestellar 8/10 (I'm biased because I love space and the visuals were stunning even if the plot was meh)

Dunkirk 7/10 (decent war movie but nothing special)

Tenet 3/10 (dreadful film confusing for the sake of it, Denzel's son can't act, sound mixing was awful, eyerolling dialogue like “this will kill all humankind” “including my son”)

Oppenheimer 8/10 (solid film, great acting. My issues were the trinity test, I wish he had used CGI or just remastered the real footage, and some cringe lines like the JFK namedrop and the Einstein scenes)

Tenet: 3/10 has some nice visuals but painful dialogue (especially for Kenneth Branagh) and a stupid gimmick that feels like it's there just for the sake of it, basically the peak of everything I find annoying about Nolan.

Tbh you can basically repeat that review to various degrees for all of these films

Inception 6/10 probably my favourite of these because it came first so I wasn't sick of the formula yet. Probably has the best performances and dialogue too (you can actually understand everything that is said).

Interstellar: 4/10 film starts of fairly strong and then goes on way too long and completely falls apart in the final third

Dark Knight Rises: 4/10 multiple laughable scenes :marseycia: and Talia's death, breaks the formula by just having a boring plot rather than a tryhard one

Dunkrik: completely forgotten everything about it tbh/10

Inception: 8 out of ten, super entertaining.

Dark Knight: 7 out of 10, better than usual capeshit slop

Intersteller: 7 out of 10, great movie with terrible pacing

Dunkirk: 4/10, that actor kid is super annoying in the movie and ruined what would have otherwise been 6.5/10

Tenet: 3/10, made-for-tv quality, and not HBO

Oppenheimer: never saw

Oppenheimer is infuriating. He's messed up the timelines so throughly and STILL puts the climax midway through the movie and back-loads the second half of the film with a boring commie interrogation. It was paced like a cripple trying to scale a set of stairs

Another good shout but I would say while overrated at least Tarantino doesn't have any complete stinkers

Inception - pretty cool
Dark Knight Rises - Good
Interstellar - Ok
Dunkirk - A bit boring but war films usually are
Tenet - strangely boring considering the thought put into the script

I remember seeing Memento 20 years ago and thinking "wow, I can't wait to see what this guy does next". But like so many creative people it seems he had one really good story to tell and after that he's competent at making movies but nothing special.

Everyone hates on his films though? (Other than Happy Gilmore and his non-comedies) (also not a director)
