Context: Star Wars has recently come out with a new show, The Acolyte, that has bitterly divided the fandom. It had received an extremely poor audience Rotten Tomatoes score before it even came out, actors from it have been harassed, and has been the subject of numerous extremely negative Youtube videos mostly from those on the right and far right. A post is made on /r/prequelmemes claiming that Lucas would not be a fan of the modern fandom due to his left wing beliefs, and argument ensues. How much of the criticism is in good faith? Is Disney Star Wars pushing politics? Is the Acolyte actually bad? Is the Star Wars fandom toxic?

Reminder there was an amazing child actor that auditioned for Anakin who looked just like the concept art and even sort of looked like a young Hayden Christensen. He knocked his audition out of the park and everyone was dead set on casting him except Lucas, who said "some people just audition well" because he had a weird fixation on the more littleboyish mop headed Jake Lloyd. His audition sucked but Lucas insisted it had to be him, for reasons unknown (he wanted to frick him)

I thought that was because they wanted to cast Leonardo Decaprio as Anakin, and chose an actor that looked like him.
The more suspect thing is that in early drafts of Indiana Jones George Lucas thought it would be "funny" have to Indiana have an ex who is like 14 and the joke is basically that he fricked a child

And then Lloyd complained decades later that other kids made fun of him which never made sense to me. Little kids loved that movie, and his classmates must have been thrilled to go to school with a movie star.
I'm not calling him a liar, but he's a liar. His life and career fell apart not because of mockery from his peers, but because he sucks.
