Kino Autists, I Need Your Help For My List of Disturbing Movies

Years ago, I created a massive list of disturbing films on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls009209730/ :marseyautism:

As of this writing, the list has 1,706 titles on it and easily the largest such list on the internet. :marseylongpost:

However, as many of you know, I was in prison from 2015 to 2024 and, as such, I was obviously not able to keep the list updated. Could you all please fill me in on the disturbing films that have come out since then? There's a list from /r/DisturbingMovies, but it's largely useless. It was made by Redditards, so it's filled with films that don't even remotely belong on a list of disturbing movies, like Watership Down and The Dark Crystal. To be on my list, the content has to be at least at R-rated level. :marseyindignant:

(As a side note, while I was in prison, I wrote a detailed outline for my own attempt at creating the most disturbing film ever made (partially inspired by the disgusting s*x offenders who I was forced to be surrounded by) - one that would not only far exceed every other "sickest movie ever made" in terms of on-screen depravity, but would also tell an emotionally devastating story filled with truly heartbreaking pathos. The fact that even the deeply jaded and desensitized prison staff were shocked and disturbed by it (and repeatedly spoke to me about it) told me that I did exactly what I set out to do.) :doge:

The Lawnmower Man(1992) and C.H.U.D.(1984) are quite spine-tingling bone-chilling slow burn horror movies.

Mad God might be up your alley. It's a stop motion film with lots of weird creatures and visuals

Also not a recent film but have you seen Demonlover? It starts off tame but builds up to quite a disturbing end.

Brandon Cronenberg's films are other good recent options. I've not seen Infinity Pool but Possessor is really good

Mad God is so fricking kino for the first 20 minutes, and then everything that's live action is dogshit, and then it kind of gets okay at the end.

How come you don't have Spoorloos ("The Vanishing" in the subtitled English release)?

It's the most disturbing fiction movie I have ever seen despite having no gore and very few violent scenes, and it's not even close. Legit never want to watch that shit again. Usually disturbing movies don't do much to me, but this one had me feeling a bit fricked up for days afterward.

The way Watership Down focused on the omnipresent violence and death in the world definitely makes it a disturbing movie, so frick you.

It was much more than just "fighting bunnies".

You're missing Ari Aster movies. They're still normie-digestible but they're as disturbing as something like Saw or Eraserhead. Hereditary is considered his most disturbing full length movie, and There's Something about the Johnsons his most disturbing short film.

Seconding the rec for Under the Skin. I've not seen this movie or any Ari Aster ones but people who like arthouse horror rec these a lot.

Maybe not disturbing enough but I really enjoyed Jordan Peele's Nope. It's mostly an adventure movie but there's one particular scene of a crowd death that left many viewers shaken and nauseous.

Another "disturbing" movie I've personally seen is The Favorite. Not hardcore enough for the list but way more brutal than the subject matter would suggest. There are lots of genuine funny moments interspersed with horror moments like an ex prostitute being burned with lye.

The Strange Thing About the Johnsons is on there.

Which The Favorite are you talking about? There are several films with that title.

Star wars last jedi is the most racist film ive seen.

Joh boyega goes to prison twice, attempts suicide, betrays his comrades and leads the enemies to victory. I mean he didnt develop a crack addiction but i assume that happened in the third movie

Airbud is unironically an existential dread movie, the implications that sentient dogs exist and the ramifications keep me up at night.

Japanese film Grotesque, german film Angst and indie animated Where the Dead Go to Die

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

All three are already on there. Of those three, Angst is the only one that's actually a decent movie. Where the Dead Go to Die gets points only for being quite unlike anything else ever made. To paraphrase the great critic Beavis: "it sucks, but it sucks in a new way that we haven't seen before, so I guess that makes it kinda cool."

That was on there from day one. Truthfully, I personally did not find it to be disturbing, though. I mean, it is easily the most depraved film ever made, but the overall tone of it just didn't feel disturbing to me. It was a surprisingly decent film, however, made with a significant degree of artistic quality. In stark contrast, the #2 "sickest movie ever made" - August Underground's Mordum (2003) - is just a plotless, amateurish concatenation of ridiculously over-the-top hardcore depravity that possesses absolutely no redeeming value of any sort.

Serbian Film is a nice bone chilling, slow burn, skinamarink-like, A24-esque films. One could say it took a lot of inspiration from PG-13 80s horror movies like Goonies and Gremlins. I would reccomend kicking back and making it a movie for the whole friend group, possibly even the foid for if she likes a good creepy crawly flick!
