Zero Dark Thirty :marseyshrug:

It retells the story of how bin Laden was hunted down and killed. I already knew all this stuff from watching the news when it was happening, but I guess it's interesting to see it all put together in one story.

Beyond that I'm not seeing why it got so much attention. It looks good, but it's 2024. Every movie looks good now. The story is stuff that's important to know but not terribly compelling. Beyond just recounting what really happened it has a fictional plot about a girlboss CIA analyst which is the weakest part of it. I really did not give a shit about her.

Just kidding. I'm not stupid. I know it got so much attention because anything Kathryn Bigelow makes is very important. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but the only thing she did in this that I found notable was making about 1/4 of it torture. It's a weird choice to make. There was lots of different sources of intelligence that led them to bin Laden, but she makes it seem like they basically just tortured it out of one guy. It never shows a normal interrogation, implying that your choice is just to torture or do nothing. I don't know if he would have talked just as soon if they gave him some cigarettes instead. Nobody knows because they didn't try it. But for some reason Kathryn Bigelow is sure that torture and only torture works. Kinda makes me wonder if she's some kind of pervert.

I too was underwhelmed by this film.

If you'd read even just the Wikipedia article on the hunt for Bin Laden, this didn't offer much that was new, and wasn't particularly compelling otherwise.

Katheryn Bigelow peaked with Point Break.

>Kinda makes me wonder if she's some kind of pervert.

If she was a legit pervert she'd make better films.

Look at Roman Polanski. The man drugged and r*ped a thirteen year old girl and he's one of the greatest directors of all time.

There's a kino story to be told about the bin Laden raid from Pakistan's point of view. Literal military deep state with multiple layers of competing conspiracies. Instead we get bland CIA propaganda.

CIA girlboss is real

The marines who participated in the raid also mentioned meeting a "CIA woman"briefing them like depicted in the film.

But for some reason Kathryn Bigelow is sure that torture and only torture works

This was a controversial theme in the movie which attracted criticism. The CIA did employed torture but most of the intel on Bin Laden's hideouts was gathered by other means.

Speaking for the film, I thought It was decent but nothing special and definitely not Oscar-worthy.

B-word bye πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ what's cringe is you stereotyping everyone on the planet who smokes weed. The only person here who's awkward, boring, lame and living in a haze here is you buddy. As someone who smokes weed everyday, I love doing things while smoking weed. Whether it be hiking, yoga, working out, studying or reading a book. On top of all of that, I have my own business and I'm getting a degree in Kinesiology. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ also, getting realizations are fun. Maybe you should smoke some weed one day so you can realize how you're projecting your own cringe personality on the rest of your pothead "friends."
