Godzilla x Kong ASL version :marseyhearnoevil: :marseylaugh:

The new Godzilla-Kong movie dropped on HBO Max, and there is an ASL version and it's the funniest shit I've seen all week.

It's basically just this black guy that pops up at the bottom of the screen acting like he's roaring like a gorilla. It feels vaguely racist, but then I thought, what if they DIDNT have a black man doing ASL as King Kong. :marseyscream:

Here's a few links of pics/vids I found, for the poors who don't have HBO Max (the best streaming service).

I have no idea what the movie is about but the guy does ASL with so much soul.

Don't the subtitles make the ASL version completely pointless?

There are deaf people that are very militant about sign language being their primary language, not English. They campaign for ASL translations being more available. They've gained a lot of concessions in the UK, so most speeches from government officials you see on TV will have the bubble in the corner. The BBC will show sign language "dubs" of programs in the middle of the night so that people can record them.

Important speeches I get, but the amount of people who are deaf, can't read and actually want to see Kong slop can't be worth the cost of the interpreter.

It's just pandering.

It heavily features a deaf girl character, and sign language is used throughout the movie. Then the monsters are obviously all nonverbal communication. It's a clever marking angle.

The acting and dialogue are terrible so it actually works in the movies favor when no one is speaking.
