I remember being so disappointed when I read the book. The first Jurassic Park novel was really good, then the second one, it was kind of obvious that Crichton wrote it in a rush for money to cash in on the success of the first one. Same with the movie. In fact, I seem to remember reading that he was contractually obligated to produce a sequel. I love Crichton, but I have to call a spade a spade. In general, the guy's writing really fell off a cliff after Jurassic Park. His stuff after it is so bad compared to The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Sphere, and Jurassic Park.

You are in luck, because the 1971 The Andromeda Strain movie is awesome and very close to the book. You should watch it if you haven't already. The 1995 Congo movie, not so much. I remember hating it when I first saw it. With the passage of time I can now appreciate its cheesiness and old-school silly jungle adventure feel, but as a big fan of the book I fricking hated it so much when I first saw it.
