Just watched the classic anti-yakuza movie Minbo last night. Highly recommend to everyone. It's foreign but it's actually funny, not art house shit.

Catching up on various :marseyboomer:-era TV shows that I haven't seen yet. These aren't great but certainly are watchable and make me feel much more comfortable than crap made today:

  • The FBI - 1960s-1970s cop show. Basically trying to be Dragnet except sucking off J. Edgar Hoover a lot. I suggest anyone who believes the FBI has traditionally been a left-wing pro-Democratic Party institution watch a few of these.

  • Andromeda - 1990s Canadian low-budget sci-fi. Just saw one of these. Seemed interesting enough.

Kim's Convenience - Pretty good sitcom. Again not a masterpiece but probably the first show I've ever seen in my life where I felt "representation". It shows the kind of actually diverse milieu that I'm from, half white and half various kinds of asians. We get into cultural conflicts sometimes but we mean well and aren't screaming racial slurs and trying to lynch each other all the time.

And of course lots of videos about airplane crashes. Someday I want to die in a plane crash and be able to spend the last 30 seconds of my life diagnosing what the problem is before we hit the ground.

Andromeda was great, the lore and the universe felt so fresh and original.

Yeah, I don't remember if you're the one who told me to try it recently, but I thought it was pretty good. And I don't need a lot of CGI. I grew up with goddarn TOS where the optical effects were stuff they probably could have done in my high school darkroom.
