I only watched the first season and I was definitely not impressed. To be honest, I never even remotely understood the massive amounts of praise heaped on The Sopranos. It's the ultimate "I don't care what happens to these people" kind of story. If you're going to make a show where every single character is extremely unlikeable and unsympathetic, then the characters should at least be interesting, but none of the characters on The Sopranos are the slightest bit interesting (least of all Tony Soprano), and it is absolutely impossible to care in the slightest what happens to any of them. The overall effect of the show is comparable to that of watching caged animals kill each other.
The thing is The Sopranos reflects the modern person and society. People are not just good or evil, they're mundane as well. We have to remember that it aired in 1997 and this was a lot of peoples first introduction to premium long form tv shows and a different perspective on the gangster genre. If you take away the mafia aspect, it's a story about a man coming to terms with a society that no longer fits him and his family that slowly starts to not respect his authority anymore.

Are you watching the title sequence every episode? It's very important not to skip that. You won't understand if you skip that. I know zoomers tend to skip credits
It takes a bit to find it's footing, the first season is a bit weird and for some reason it's front-loaded with tragedy. It gets funnier and more impactful in the seasons that follow.

Sorry, but your argument fails because you forgot to include a smug anime face.
