I wish I could have known my great-grandfather because he was basically like me except bitching about the same things several decades ago.

I've never actually seen this movie but I have read the book. I should correct that.

I don't just throw movie recommendations out there lightly, but if you appreciate the story this is an incredibly good adaptation of it. The people who made it knew exactly how to use 1960 technology to tell the story in the best possible way.

I just watched it. I won't bore with all my thoughts, but simply put it wasn't bad, especially compared to today's movies and book adaptations. My main complaint is that when he finally goes into the future much of it is changed from the book, giving it a more happy ending. I prefer the book. But despite that I was invested and interested all the way through. Probably won't watch it again but I don't regret seeing it.

Usually I try to start a fight with everyone who says anything but... yeah. That's kinda my opinion too.
I was most impressed with the special effects and how they worked them into the story. But "wow they got this done on done on time in 1960" is kind of a niche pursuit.
The rest of the movie is really good too imo.
