Daily /h/kino poll: Godzilla, Invasion of the Astro-Monster

In this classic, a very American astronaut and a Japanese astronaut are dispatched to the newly discovered Planet X near Saturn. They're almost immediately welcomed by a mysterious cylinder that tells them to get in, so they do, where they meet aliens who promise them a miracle drug that will cure all disease if Earth just lets X borrow Godzilla and Rodan for a minute so they can team up and beat Ghidorah. And it works! but all is not as it seems :marseysweating:

It's also the one where Godzilla does a victory dance

:marseybountyhunter: Gunslinger and murderer :marseymagdump: Alec Baldwin is being charged and again with Involuntary Manslaughter. Redditors are mad :soyjaktantrum:

r/entertainment thread

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17057039429577467.webp :marseybounty#!hunter:

Baldwin, 65, was initially charged in the case in January 2023. But the charges were dropped three months later, after Baldwin's defense team raised questions about whether his Colt .45 was functioning properly when it fired.

Hutchins was preparing to film a scene with Baldwin at a ranch near Santa Fe, N.M., in October 2021 when the gun went off. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger.

Two special prosecutors sent the gun for further forensic testing last summer.

Their experts reconstructed the gun — which had been broken during FBI testing — and concluded that it could only have been fired by a pull of the trigger.

“This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger,” the report concluded.

Why would it matter if he pulled the trigger when there were like three people who were supposed to make sure the gun didn't have real bullets in it beforehand?

The case against Baldwin has been bungled since the beginning. Inappropriate comments by the prosecutor, dropping the charges and reinstating them, the FBI accidentally breaking the firearm. The defence is going to have a field day with this. No way this is going to result in a conviction. :marseysuit:

As it shouldn't :soyjakanimeglasses:

This stopped being about getting justice a long time ago, and is now about putting a man in jail for insulting their god-king

The Santa Fe county DA is a Democrat in a county that went 76% for Biden in 2020…

DRUMMMMPPPPPPFFFFFFFF :marseymagarentfree:

The gun was broken during the FBI investigation ? Not suspicious at all. :marseyamogus:

So they're recognizing that there's an armorer on set, and they're charging her (rightfully so). How, then, do they consider it in any way his fault when there's an armorer whose responsibility it was? I just don't get it. If I were to accidentally cause Guy A to unwittingly kill Guy B, then there are two direct victims: Guy A and Guy B. I'd be the only one at fault. Why is Alec Baldwin being charged for manslaughter?

Exactly! He's very clearly and obviously being targeted here regardless of what criteria you apply.

DEATH TO BALDWIN

These prosecutors cannot let this go. Seriously, they can't. This is either going to thrown out by a judge or they will roll the dice taking this to trial only to lose. It was an accident, a tragic one, but still no malice intended or reckless behavior. What a waste of tax dollars and resources.

another professional reddit lawyer :marseysaulgoodman:

Poor Alec's wife must be... how you say? Upset?

:pepesimp:

Yeah, this is as much bullshit as it was the FIRST time. He was handed the gun by the person whose VERY JOB was to ensure the safety of firearms on the set. She was hired for no other reason. It's her job, and nobody else's. The armorer is there for this job, not Baldwin.

Did anyone else ever watch this show? I originally saw random episodes, out of order, on late night MTV2 reruns when I was little and it lowkey traumatized me but I kept trying to find it again. It was way too adult a show for me to be watching. This was part of the "MTV Oddities" series and it only ran 13 short episodes and then disappeared almost entirely from the media universe. I've never met anyone else IRL who has seen it, and once or twice if I tried to explain it or describe it to somebody they'd react like it sounded fake. The whole series has this fever dream vibe about it, and if it weren't for the internet I might write it off as something I made up or misremembered.

I found this blog about it but it doesn't entirely do it justice:

Based on a comic, which I am definitely getting my hands on at the earliest opportunity, the cast of characters are all shapes and sizes and animated fluidly and in constantly changing styles. The show is totally surreal, half set in the shared subconscious of the main character Julie. Or maybe it's Maxx's subconscious? Or a collective subconscious? I think you get my point. The ‘real' world of the show is as grim as Mega-City One and haunted by Maxx's antagonist – a serial male feminist who seems to have a telepathic link to Julie's trauma fractured mind.

Throughout the show we explore how trauma in childhood and adulthood have caused Julie's psyche to fracture through the medium of ‘The Outback' an alternate reality that constitutes her subconscious and which seems to have trapped Maxx within itself illustrating their co-dependant relationship. It is a nuanced portrayal of how trauma can force us into self-destructive and risky behaviours and how ignoring and suppressing trauma can damage us unless we can find the strength to confront past events. Control is obviously important to her, both her own and others having control over their own lives as shown in her chosen profession and disdain for “professional victims” and this is a direct and realistic consequence of the lack of control she experienced through her “violation”.

The whole series is on the Internet Archive if you want to watch it. I haven't re-watched it to see how it stands up to my childhood nightmares, but I might do.

Anyone watched Fearless (1993)?

Just finished it and it's one of those rare movies where I don't get it at all. Usually when there's a movie I don't fully get I at least understand what it's trying to convey, or what the overall theme is, even if it doesn't work for me.

Here there's literally nothing I caught on to. At first I thought it was about a man who became mentally broken after traumatic event, but his altruistic behavior showed that wasn't the case.

Then I thought it's about a man who lost all fear to embody all that is good and become a Christlike savior figure, but his abandonment of family and romance with other woman proved that wrong.

Then towards the end I believed it was a Jacob's Ladder type story and it was a dying man reliving what he could've done earlier in his life, but quite obviously what we saw wasn't a dream.

Do you have an interpretation?

There's definitely something that's attempted to be told here, but I just can't figure it. I feel it's gonna be one of those movies where I'll have to rewatch it a couple times and then see a 30 minute video essay to understand what the point was.
