Gender identity can be a hard thing to talk about, especially when you are involved. But this conversation is extremely important and parental involvement is critical. Kids need to know we love and support them.

Premier Smith outlines the following changes that will impact school divisions:
The Government of Alberta will require parental notification and an opt-in requirement for students who are learning curriculum involving gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality
Third-party resource materials or presentations related to gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality in K-12 schools will need to be pre-approved by the Minister of Education to ensure materials are age-appropriate
For students aged 15 and younger, the government will require parental notification and consent for changes to a student's name or pronoun
For students aged 16 and 17, parental notification is required but consent is not required
Alberta already had a few protests over the changes.

I remember ten years ago, the debate was if parents should be notified if their kid was LGB. And that never passed

That was back when people still debated whether it was the schools causing it. It's kind of weird that a teacher would be notifying parents that their kid is acting like a strag in class.
The trans stuff is a bit different since it's not about sexuality and there's at least some real evidence that people can be influenced by their peers and ‘changed' especially kids with autism. There's no real cases of a successful gay conversion but there are trans people who detrans

Not only that but being gay doesn't require you to change your name, pronouns, go on hormones, or have surgery.
