anyone else feel an overwhelming sense of dread looking at the news?

maybe this isn't the right place for this rant but I'm just so exhausted. I live in Alberta, and our trump wannabe premier has just introduced bills banning the typical "gender and sexuality ideology in schools", pretty much word for word replicating the florida bills and those that have followed since. Canadian politics never used to be this divisive and intolerant, now it just feels like we are falling closer and closer down the same path as America's extremism, its like a virus. I am truly scared for what happens next, book banning? don't say gay bills? complete ban of abortion? I live with my mom and her boyfriend and he dragged her into qanon a long time ago, but they are only getting more insane and hyped up as it influences Canada more and more. I already heard them cheering at the TV tonight, wishing death to all those "evil teachers turning the children queer". My mom used to be such a tolerant and loving person, she is unrecognizable now after 3 years of being involved in this crap.

away from family I'm also terrified for the future of my beautiful home province. Our premier would rather spend all our taxpayer money and all her time, introducing these meaningless, pandering bills just to win over the favour of the extreme alt-right movement here. We have so many issues in this province that are getting pushed to the side and budget cut. Our healthcare system is falling to pieces, we have a shortage of ambulances, increase of substance abuse related deaths, climate change is destroying us since we have had barely any precipitation this year (theres barely any snow which is NOT normal for january so theres for sure going to be a drought and strain on agriculture, our wildfire seasons are getting worse due to the dryness and lack of funding, I can't move out of my home due to the cost of rent insurance groceries gas etc. so many issues that need to be productively fixed but our premier would rather just sit and take selfies with tucker carlson and plastic straws while blaming EVERYTHING on the federal government instead of doing anything productive. so many instragram and twitter comments are in support of this, its like everyone has suddenly become brainwashed by this cult. I'm so tired :(

Yes. Americаn here and I feel more hopeless all the time, especially for my children and future grandchildren. I'm so sorry to hear things are getting crazy for our northern neighbors as well.

Americаn here. Nothing has felt good since 2017-2018 & it's getting worse. I'm pretty convinced we're going to end up in some Mad Max-like situation sooner rather than later. Covid sped up the decline. When I think about the future… I have none. I don't feel suicidal or anything… I just don't see how anything around the world, and especially in Americа, can get better. And what would there be for me to want to stick around for?

I'm in the US and I feel dread every day. I live in a red state with an ultra-religious majority. Nearly all of my friends, neighbors and coworkers are Trump supporters. Even my partner (who is also into Q adjacent conspiracies). I am sorry and disappointed that this has spread to your country. I literally woke up this morning thinking I should contact your government to see what the process would be to seek refugee status (if it comes to that) with my special needs daughter. Then I saw your post. It feels like there is nowhere to go to escape this.
