Meh white men aren't the target for the military anymore, they need to recruit poor immigrants with no other choice like the US. The leaf military is so underfunded that no one would join unless they had literally no other options. I think you'll have better experience for future jobs if you worked at McDonalds full time

Don't they get paid like a third of what they would have made in the US? And housing prices are comparable to US if not larger? Just saying that housing stipend and VA loan (w/e equivalent they have in leafland) might come in handy
