These single moms say landlords won't rent to them because they have kids — even though that's illegal : canada | :ethot: "I had to live with the childrens father for 10 months looking for a place to rent!!!"

https://old.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/1beq8xx/these_single_moms_say_landlords_wont_rent_to_them/?sort=controversial

Gunn, who works as a human resources assistant and is currently on maternity leave, has been living with her ex-partner for 10 months as she scours rental ads multiple times a day. She said she needs to get out, but she's starting to feel hopeless.

"I've been looking for so long and I just feel like landlords and big corporations, they get to just cherry-pick because they have so many applications and they just pick the one that makes the most income," she said. "I have a good job ... I pay all my bills. And now I could be homeless."

Golly almost like being a single mom is a bad choice.

She's working with a housing support worker, but they haven't been able to find her a rental either.

Gunn said if she can't find a safe and affordable place to rent soon, she may have to give up primary custody of her children to their fathers, who have stable living situations.

:#marseyxd: Fathers.

But it may be for the best. Maybe you should've consider this before being a hoe

Alexis Dingwell is also searching for housing for herself and her two-year-old son. She currently rents a room in a house with 10 people.

She said she has applied to hundreds of rentals that are close to her $1,500 budget but she is always denied. In one instance, she was told it's because she has a young child.

Sue. They literally said the quite part outloud. Drag the r-slur to the HRC and milk them like a paypig. A black guy got 10K a few years ago because he was singled out and made to prepay for his meal.

"I think it's ridiculous, honestly, 'cause where else are we supposed to live if we can't live in your building," Dingwell said. "It's an apartment building, it's for people to live, it's for people to be safe. And you're telling me I can't live there because I have a kid? It just doesn't make sense."

Makes perfect sense. No one wants to deal with children, especially those of a single mother

most single mothers are single by choice, their kids always be wildin

That's an ignorant thing to say.

i said most, not all. There are plenty of noble women left.

Still an ignorant thing to say. You sound jaded, you should lay off the internet for a bit.

!nooticers imagine thinking you need the internet to noooootice how many single moms made terrible choices. I've seen women knowingly date men with multiple other baby mamas, who's main source of income is crime, who get drunk every single day and then act shocked when he keeps doing the same thing even after she gets knocked up.

These women make r-slurred choices with obviously unfit fathers and then act like they were blindsided by single motherhood.

I'd love to see the extensive research you undertook in order to reach this conclusion.

Women initiate 80% of divorces.

... And? ...

R-slurred

Why the Heck don't their fathers have custody already? Are Canadian courts so gender-biased that a homeless mother gets priority for custody over a perfectly capable father? :marseyfeminist:

Why am I even asking? Of course they are. It's Canada. :marseyrake:

She's not homeless. Yet.

She is living with an ex-partner (unknown if he is one of the fathers), so the kids had a home.

I assumed the article would have mentioned if the ex in question was one of the fathers, but these are Canadian journos were talking about. I may be giving them too much credit. :marseybluecheck:

But let's say he is. Why doesn't she just find a place for herself and her other kid, and leave one kid with the father he's already living with? He's clearly not dangerous, or she wouldn't be waffling about for 10 months. Finding a place as a single mother may be difficult, but decreasing the number of kids she's trying to take with her would presumably make things easier. But she doesn't seem to have even considered the option. :marseywomanmoment:

It just seems like all her problems could be solved if she was willing to treat her kids' fathers like the parents they are. Instead, she's making things more difficult for both herself and her children so she can what? Stick it to her exes? Get a couple monthly child support checks? Portray herself as a martyr for attention? :marseywomanmoment2:

But whatever. She's a Canadian and so are her brats. They'll all MAID themselves eventually, and the world will become a slightly more beautiful place. :marseywholesome:

I also caught the "fathers" line lmao

The second lady isn't getting rentals because she's in school, has a kid and is on welfare. Everyone who's ever rented knows its going to be a nightmare collecting from her. It's gonna be nonstop excuses and in winter you won't be able to even turn their heat off cos of muh children

Yeah this, single mothers have like 4x the squatting power. At least with :marseytunaktunak: you can just clean the smell of curry out afterwards.

When it's their home they're sharing with you, yes they can choose. However, if this is a separate unit regardless of who owns it they should not. Check my finances and references all you want but if you have a "personal preference" for a particular type of tenant that's not allowed.

Which will be unenforceable outside of dying farm towns because there will always be plenty of applicants for the most part where the landlord absolutely can pick and choose, just don't be an autist about it and say it out loud or in writing lol.

It's illegal to have kids in Canada?!

Usually i'm opposed to government intervention in people's personal lives, but i'm a hypocrite for Canada and fully support their excessively antinatalist approach.
