The couple, who identifies as mixed-race, told the board they only discovered their home was a designated heritage property last year, when they began looking into modifying the house's steep stairway from the sidewalk.
Because of that heritage designation, they learned, they'd need to get permission from the city before making any major changes to the property.
BUT fear not, they're brown so rules need not apply because someone, somewhere, was probably racist once.

Lol, literally descendants of immigrants looking to destroy local culture and heritage. Also maybe Canada's different but it was made clear as day my house was on the historic registry when I bought it. I very much doubt they didn't know.

Just declare the house to be contaminated with racism due to the original owner, and have the new owners forcibly removed, because a house contaminated with racism will do long-term harm to any mixed race couple living there.
Also, I feel if you're going to call someone 'mixed-race' in an article, you should list all their races, so my implicit bias can do its job properly.
