The pay is mediocre but it's in low cost of life shitholes like Ottawa so it's viable.

Remote work is objectively more efficient - if I have to commute to the office I will spend at least the same amount of time doing absolutely nothing while I'm there.

I'm also showing up and leaving at exactly 9 and 5, and I'm not looking at my phone after I leave.

Depends on the job.

I've worked answering phones. Being in-office was way better for that so I would hear group announcements/changes immediately, and wasn't getting interrupted with emails and chats and sudden unplanned meeting invites because everyone respected "on the phone"/busy. Commuting sucked though, and having to wake up early enough that hangover fog would clear my brain before I started driving.

I've worked answering emails and writing up documentation and minor code, and remote was way better for that. I didn't have to entertain r-slurs wanting to chuckle-frick about their weekends or interrupting me to ask me if I got their email from 5 seconds ago. I did have to deal with emails and chats but could just ignore them for an hour and say sorry, balls-deep in this write-up. I could also sleep off my hangover until 10 minutes before my shift, and no one would be the wiser.

That's cool, but I produce actual value so I cant relate to any of that
