The illiad is in an ancient ancient form of greek from the bronze/iron age but Koine greek is just the later variation of it in the Hellenistic period do you mean like reading the new testament?

It's more than just a later variation. By about 100 AD the Greeks were struggling to understand the Iliad. By now, that language is pretty much incomprehensible to modern Greeks.
