I read 20 pages of Paradise Lost this week as I’m more focused on the bookclub reading.
Interesting video about the Devil. It talks about Paradise Lost and Faust.

I read House of Gucci, I feel like I got bait and switched cause it wasn’t even really about the murder mainly just boring business stuff that I CBF to care about. Maybe I should actually research books and not grab random ones that look interesting from the shop

The penguin translation is absolute trash, it's just word for word and there's no attention to rhyme or meter when i can CLEARLY see it's supposed to be poetry in the original. Never finished it because it's not a good read

While I was going on, mine eyes by one
Encountered were; and straight I said: “Already
With sight of this one I am not unfed.”
Therefore I stayed my feet to make him out,
And with me the sweet Guide came to a stand,
And to my going somewhat back assented;

I finished reading Rocket Stories #1, the first issue of a sci fi short story mag from 1954. Surprisingly good and fairly edgy/horny golden age sci fi, wish the bookstore hadnt closed down so i could find more issues

I was reading Jane Austen's Persuasion. She's really good at understanding people and being catty, but 1700s novel sentence structure is always awful so it's still a bit of a slog.

Still reading SPQR (I'm slow), up to the late years of the Senate.
Kinda wild how lean the early Roman Republic really was in terms of services. Apparently they didn't even really have a police force so once political violence started breaking out there was nothing really to stop it. You could "sway" an election by hiring some mercenaries/thugs to just murder the opposition.

I'm not a history dweeb, but wasn't this shit happening even more often in the late Roman republic?

Ah, I phrased that terribly. You're right, I'm talking about the later years of the Republic, but was thinking "early" in terms of overall Roman history.

I loved that book. Mary Beard goes beyond the “consul x and emperor y did this” and gets into details of daily life of Roman Citizens using ancient sources combined with archeological evidence.

Reading The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen. I can see why Lovecraft drew inspiration from it, the part in the story where a kid encounters a man in the woodsand later we find out it was a pagan god was spooky.

STOP POSTING ABOUT SNEED! I'M TIRED OF SEEING IT! ANONS ON 4CHAN SEND ME MEMES, ON GROOMERCORD IT'S FRICKING MEMES! I was on a board, right? and ALL OF THE THREAD was just sneed feed and seed memes. I-I showed season 11 episode 5 of the simpsons to my girlfriend and I said "hey babe, when the joke means frick and suck, HAHA DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DU DU NUH NUH NUH, I fricking looked at a barn and said "THAT'S A BIT SNEED" I went and bought a hooker, and I said "FRICK AND SUCK? MORE LIKE SEED AND FEED" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHGESFG
I can't fricking take it. I see an image of a random place posted and then I see it, I fricking see it. "Oh that looks kinda like the feed and seed" it started as. That's funny, that's a cool reference. But I kept going, I'd see a man who looks like sneed, I'd see a fat guy who looks like chuck, I'd see a barn that looked like feed and seed. And every time I'd burst into an insane, breath deprived laugh staring at the image as the words SNEED ran through my head. It's torment, psychological torture, I am being conditioned to laugh maniacly any time I see a simpsons reference. I can't fricking live like this... I can't I can't I can't I can't I can't! And don't get me fricking started on the words! I'll never hear the word feed again without thinking of sneed. Someone does something bad and I can't say anything other than "Frick." I could watch a man murder everyone I love and all I would be able to say is "frick and suck " and laugh like a fricking insane person. And the word "sneed" is ruined. The phrase "feed and seed" is ruined. I can't live anymore. Sneed has destroyed my fricking life. I want to eject myself from this plane of existence. MAKE IT STOP!
